
The Society of Mountain Guides and Leaders (SGLM) is a professional association open to all mountain guides operating in Romania who are qualified and legally practice this profession.
The Society of Mountain Guides and Leaders (SGLM) is a professional association open to all mountain guides operating in Romania who are qualified and legally practice this profession. Additionally, any person who is not currently a guide but wishes to become a mountain guide or leader, or who is simply a supporter of our activity and wishes to offer their support, can become a member of the Society.
Currently, SGLM has the following membership categories:
- Honorary Members;
- Active Members;
- Aspirant Members;
- Supporting Members;

BENEFITS: ACTIVE MEMBER
The Society does not emphasize the number of members, but rather their quality and level of training.
In this regard, SGLM accepts as active members only those who meet the minimum necessary legal conditions.
All active members benefit, without discrimination, from the following:
1. Support for increasing technical training levels;
2. Legal assistance in relations with third parties;
3. Information regarding aspects of practicing the profession in Romania and abroad;
4. Discounts on the purchase of technical equipment, based on agreements concluded by SGLM;
5. Discounts on accommodation in mountain areas, based on agreements concluded by SGLM;
6. Any other advantages that SGLM obtains for its members.
All SGLM mountain guides will receive support materials (badge, ID card, other insignia) for field recognition and identification.
Active Member Obligations
1. Compliance with the statutory provisions and other internal regulations;
2. Payment of an annual membership fee, the value of which is determined periodically by the General Assemblies;
3. Participation in periodic meetings for technical knowledge reassessment;
Minimum Criteria for Active Membership
1. Qualification in the profession of tourist guide with a specialization as a mountain guide, in accordance with the legislation in force;
2. Practical experience in the mountain guide profession of at least one year at the date of application. This is demonstrated by a list of routes completed in the last year in the following format: massif/route name/date/number of clients/tour type;
3. Willingness to contribute, alongside SGLM, to increasing the technical level and prestige of Romanian mountain guides;
Those who meet the above conditions and wish to become an SGLM member are requested to email the secretariat, pe email, următoarele:
- A (scanned) copy of the professional guide certificate;
- A copy of the legal form of work (PFA, SRL, or other variants);
- A summary of mountain guiding activity from the last year (standard form – available upon request from the secretariat);
- A list of technical routes completed in the Carpathians or other mountains: on rock (climbing), on skis (ski touring), and on snow/glacier/mixed terrain (mountaineering);
BENEFITS: ASPIRANT MEMBER
SGLM aims to support all those who wish to professionalize in the mountain domain.
Thus, any person who has completed a form of tourism training or is enrolled in a tourism training program (e.g., tourist guide or mountain guide course) and aims to finalize their training as a mountain guide or leader can become an SGLM aspirant member.

All aspirant members benefit, without discrimination, from the following:
1. The possibility of completing internships within mountain tourism programs organized by SGLM active members;
2. Information regarding aspects of practicing the profession in Romania and abroad;
3. Discounts on the purchase of technical equipment, based on agreements concluded by SGLM;
4. Discounts for participation in activities organized by SGLM active members;
All SGLM aspirant members will receive an ID card for field recognition and identification.
Aspirant Member Obligations
1. Completion of professional training as a mountain guide or leader within a maximum of 3 years from the date of acceptance as an aspirant member;
2. Compliance with the statutory provisions and other internal regulations;
3. Payment of an annual membership fee, the value of which is determined periodically by the General Assemblies;
Minimum Criteria for Aspirant Membership
1. Possession of a professional training certificate in tourism (e.g., tourist guide) or evidence/certificate of enrollment and participation in one of the professional training courses organized by SGLM;
2. Mountain experience of at least five years at the date of application. This is demonstrated by a list of routes completed in the last year (standard form at the SGLM secretariat);
3. The intention to become a mountain guide or leader within a maximum of 3 years from the date of the aspirant membership application;
Those who meet the above conditions and wish to become an SGLM aspirant member are requested to email the secretariat the following: secretariat, pe email, următoarele:
- A (scanned) copy of the professional tourist guide certificate or a certificate of enrollment in one of the professional training courses organized by SGLM;
- A summary of mountain activity from the last year (standard form – available upon request from the secretariat);
- A list of major hiking or technical routes completed in the Carpathians or other mountains: on rock (climbing), on skis (ski touring), and on snow/glacier/mixed terrain (mountaineering);
BENEFITS: SUPPORTING MEMBER
Any person who identifies with the projects carried out by the Society of Guides or who wishes to stay informed about the details of our mountain activities can obtain associate member status.
All associate members benefit, without discrimination, from the following:
1. Information regarding aspects of practicing the profession in Romania and abroad;
2. Discounts on the purchase of technical equipment, based on agreements concluded by SGLM;
3. Discounts for participation in activities organized by SGLM active members;
All SGLM associate members will receive an ID card for field recognition and identification.
Supporting member obligations
1. Compliance with the statutory provisions and other internal regulations;

1. At least a minimum experience or interest in the field of mountain tourism, shown through a summary of mountain-related activities (standard form – available upon request from the secretariat);
