With heavy hearts and a sorrow difficult to put into words, we announce the passing of our president, Călin Stan, who left us this past Sunday.
Călin was not only the leader of the Society of Mountain Guides and Leaders (SGLM), but also a devoted friend, a mentor to generations of guides and especially to the many children he worked with over the years, passing on his passion and joy for the mountains, and a visionary who dedicated his entire energy to promoting professional standards in the Romanian mountains.
His passion and expertise reached far beyond our borders. Călin represented SGLM with honor and dignity within UIMLA (Union of International Mountain Leader Associations). Through his efforts and those of the entire team, SGLM became a respected voice in the international family of mountain professionals.
We pledge to honor his memory by continuing the path he laid out for all of us with such integrity.
Our thoughts are with his family and all those who knew and cherished him.
